The U17 All Stars Cup 2015 is the official name of the international youth tournament that will take place for the 7th year, once again at the traditional SK Slavia Praha grounds. In practice, this means that this year we will be continuing with the unique “time-lapse” project, and for the seventh time in a row we will be organizing an event for the category of players born in 1998. When we began with the tournament, ten-year-old boys were learning to play on the big field; today, they are seventeen-year-old youths who are beginning to join adult football teams.
Truth be told, organizing this year’s All Stars Cup was difficult; more difficult than the previous years. The fact is that when it comes to professional clubs, there is a direct correlation that the older the junior category, the more difficult it is to acquire it for this type of tournament - their schedules are usually filled from the beginning to the end of the season and the clubs have their own ideas and preferences for how to handle their players at this age.
We’ve also had to change the dates of the tournament. Up till now the tournament has always been held on the third weekend in June, but this year it will be one week earlier from 12 June to 14 June 2015. There are two reasons for this. One is the U17 European Championship finals tournament in May in Bulgaria, in which the Czech team is also playing. The other reason is the U21 European Championship finals tournament that will be hosted by the Czech Republic from 17 June – with the hallmark of the biggest football event ever held in our country. The All Stars Cup thus had to wedge itself in between the two European championships. This year the main Synot Tip Arena will not be available for our final matches of the tournament, which is reserved exclusively for the needs of UEFA because of the EURO U21.
The starting field for the All Stars Cup has also changed again this year. In line with our philosophy of offering domestic participants a unique international confrontation, this year’s tournament includes a number of new clubs guaranteeing the required variety of styles and football schools. For the first time we will see Portuguese giant FC Porto and Germany’s Borussia Mönchengladbach. The tournament will also feature for the first time Finnish club HJK Helsinki, Romania’s Universitatea Craiova and Slovak club AS Trenčín. We are very pleased that we will also be seeing clubs from other continents: Japan’s JEF United from Asia and Mexico's Pumas UNAM from Central America. An attractive, albeit the least known participant, will be Algeria’s Chabab Riadhi Belouizdad, the first African club to play at the All Stars Cup!
We know that the All Stars Cup is a strong football product, as it is one of the top tournaments in the relevant age category. It is not able to financially compete with events such as the Al Kass International Cup in Qatar, where all participants get paid transportation and accommodation and also receive prize money. On the other hand, our tournament has a unique know-how and undisputed sporting value. In order to keep the tournament going and further develop it, it needs the support of strong entities, and we therefore greatly appreciate those who perceive it as such and help us with it, i.e. our key partners: the municipal district of Prague 10 (Patronage), the Football Association of the Czech Republic and the Prague City Hall (Patronage). It is also co-organized by The House of Children and Youth of the Capital City Prague
